Light up the sky: Fireworks, fun and music will fill Main Street on July 4
The city of Rowlett is preparing for its annual Fireworks on Main event. This year the city staff expects a crowd of 20,000 people will flock to the city to take part in the festivities from 5 to 10 p.m. on July 4.
Lasting memory: Kids Kingdom fence pickets available for pickup
Last week the city of Rowlett began removing the Kids Kingdom playground at Pecan Grove Park. The playground was deemed unsafe for use after an independent inspection was performed.
Improving communication: City OKs building of cell tower
The Rowlett City Council approved an agreement on June 4 to allow the construction of a new cellphone tower on city-owned property under a facilities license agreement. The construction of the tower will improve cellphone service in the city, particularly in the Waterview area.

The Rowlett Chamber of Commerce is looking for runners, joggers and walkers. The chamber will host its inaugural Freedom 5K on Main Street on July 4.

A kingdom must fall: City forced to remove popular playground to ensure children's safety
The city of Rowlett is preparing to tear down one of its more popular playgrounds in order to ensure the safety of the children who have enjoyed the structure. The city will remove the Kids Kingdom Playground from Pecan Grove Park after an independent safety inspection deemed it unsafe for use and recommended its replacement.
Rezoning approved: Assisted living facility gets OK from council
The Rowlett City Council chambers were filled with residents on Tuesday, June 4, who wanted to speak out against plans to build an assisted living center in their neighborhood. The city council unanimously passed the zoning change for the parcel of land located at 7000 Chiesa Road to allow the construction of the facility despite the opposition.
