As in years past, Independence Day will be celebrated in a big way in McKinney on the Fourth of July.

Red, White and Boom activities will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. in downtown McKinney, and end with fireworks at 9:45 p.m.

"While downtown for the parade, families can explore the many dining and shopping opportunities that downtown McKinney has to offer," said Anna Clark, city spokesperson.

A crowd will reappear at 7 p.m. at the McKinney Soccer Complex at Craig Ranch for family activities and food. Live music is scheduled there from 8 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., with Jon Christopher Davis and Lone Star Attitude on stage.

The "boom" will begin at 9:45 p.m. at the soccer complex, located at Collin McKinney Parkway and Stacy Road.

"Activities are planned for the entire family," Clark said. "It will be a full day of free, hometown fun."

During the fireworks, radio station WRR will provide "Sounds of America" on a live simulcast on Classical 101.1 FM. People watching the fireworks are urged to turn to the station to hear the music, synchronized with the fireworks.

All Red, White and Boom activities are free and open to the public.

"We want people to come and enjoy the activities," Clark said.

She said alcohol is not allowed at the events. Also, while city officials want people to enjoy the fireworks, citizens are reminded that no other fireworks are allowed in the city. Violations can result in heavy fines.

Red, White and Boom has been an annual event in McKinney since 2008.
