New bonds were formed at a dinner meeting held at Eden Hills Vineyards on Monday.

Members of the Celina Economic Development Corporation, city council and staff, Chamber of Commerce and school board members gathered for an informal meeting to discuss the city's future and to get to know one another.

"You all are as passionate about Celina as I am. We need help from everyone," Celina Mayor Jim Lewis said. "We need all the help we can get and we need to work to get people to step up."

City Manager Mike Foreman began the meeting with an inspirational speech. He said a staff member had referred to the meeting as a pep rally. It did resemble a pep rally although there were no group cheers.

"We're trying to build strong communities and increase the tax base," Foreman said. "All programs begin with everybody in this room. It begins tonight."

EDC president Kyle Rose said, "Growth is not going to stop. Celina has a tremendous amount of land. There are mutual benefits for us working together. At the end of the day if you're in Celina, you love Celina. We wanted to have a social meeting to get to know each other. From an economic development perspective we're going to become much more active."

Superintendent Donny O'Dell agreed that doing things together is also economically feasible. He pointed out that in the past the school district and the city have not always worked together so smoothly, but that things were different now. He said the district is facing financial difficulties.

"Corbett as soon as you can get a Walmart in here we'd be grateful," he joked.

He was speaking to EDC director Corbett Howard, who steps back into the role of director. He took a three-month leave of absence to work on Craig James' campaign for the U.S. Senate.

The newest member of the EDC board, Lance Poole, found the meeting very useful. He was appointed to the board 18 months ago. He said the meeting was long overdue.

He was pleased to meet people to put names with faces such as Choc Christopher, school board president.

"It's important to have teams working together," Poole said. "We all have one goal, and that is to make Celina a successful municipality. Getting everybody working together is like a breath of fresh air."
