Farmers' Harvest celebrates a successful year

This school year, Lewisville High School's student newspaper, Farmers' Harvest has lots to celebrate.
The newspaper launched its first online version, www.farhar.net, and in the same year won 11 individual achievement awards (IIAs) for its content during the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC). Senior Daniel Manrique is the 5A state champion in online entertainment review and sophomore Katia Milburn is now the reigning 5A state champion in online personal column. Junior Anthony Tran placed second in online entertainment review. The website was also acknowledged for having the state's second best home page design.
At ILPC, the print version of Farmers' Harvest won four IAAs, including a pair of second place finishes by 2011 graduate Nicole Collins in feature photo and page one design categories. Collins is now a photographer and page designer for the Daily Texan at the University of Texas at Austin.
"By my count, we pulled in 61 individual and staff awards for LHS journalists this year in local, state and national clips contests and UIL journalism events," said Corey Hale, journalism teacher. "I'm so proud of these kids and all their hard work, and so thankful to be at LHS with such great support from our faculty and administration. Please congratulate these kids. Go Farmers."
Other ILPC online award winners include (by category) sports action story, second place Hayden Eccles and honorable mention Jordan White; editorial writing, second place Anna Brady; entertainment feature, third place Katia Milburn; sports feature, honorable mention Kayli Bolds; news writing, honorable mention Victoria Montgomery; and news feature honorable mention Daniel Manrique.
"Thanks to everyone who has read the website, distributed our paper, given an interview, or allowed our reporters and photographers to interview/photograph your students," Hale added. "We couldn't do anything without a supportive staff and administration."
The 2011-2012 Farmers' Harvest staff includes: Anthony Tran, Rodolfo Vega, Hayden Eccles, Neil Geisel, Jordan White, Whitney White, Nichole Walker, Destiny Wilbanks, Tiffany Harris, Katia Milburn, Kayli Bolds, Daniel Manrique and Katelyn Hoagland.
