Lady Titans get win over Frisco

After losing a 9-0 game to first-place Wakeland, the Lady Titans were able to bounce back on Wednesday by getting back into the win column.

Centennial played host to the Lady Raccoons after rain postponed the Tuesday game to Wednesday night.

Centennial starting pitcher Mackenzie Jones was on the hill against Frisco starter Dominique Templeton and eventually prevailed for the win.

Jones surrendered five runs on 12 hits while Templeton gave up six runs on 12 hits.

Centennial will look to make it two straight tonight against Carrollton Newman Smith, while Frisco takes on second-place Creekview in a 7 p.m. home game.

Hill teaming with PCA

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Tony Hill will be featured at the 2nd Annual Positive Coaching Alliance North Texas Double-Goal Awards Dinner, which is set for April 19 at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano.

Hill is no stranger to the area as his son is former Plano East point guard Anthony Hill.

The event honors local coaches who are making a positive difference in youth sports. Award recipients are youth and high school coaches who embody the Double-Goal model, where the first goal is winning and the second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports.

Several Frisco-area coaches will be honored at the event, including youth football coaches Crystin Wuthrich and Chris McCoy, as well as lacrosse coach Jason Gildea.

FIVB World League coming to Dallas

The U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team and national teams from Italy, France and Korea are coming to the Dallas Convention Center for a FIVB World League weekend June 29-July 1.

The competition, which will be televised internationally, marks the last chance to watch these teams prior to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

“This will be an exciting weekend for both the city and the sport,” said Phillip Jones, president and CEO of the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The U.S., ranked sixth in the world, won the 2008 World League.

“We are really looking forward to competing in Dallas,” said Alan Knipe, U.S. head coach.

The FIVB World League weekend will also open the 2012 USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championships. That event, set for July 1-8, will feature more than 400 teams.
