Lobos honored by TABC

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches recently named the 2011-12 All-Region teams and two Lobos were honored with selections.

Juniors Biron Joseph and Devante’ Pullum were named to the list for Class 4A teams after leading the Lobos to a District 4-4A championship.

Little Elm reached the regional quarterfinals this season before dropping a 61-59 contest to Denton Ryan.

The team ended the year with a 12-0 mark against district counterparts.

Lady Rangers in playoff race

The Lone Star softball team is in the middle of the pack when it comes to the District 11-3A standings.

The Lady Rangers, looking to clinch a top-four seed in the district to earn a playoff berth, sit at 2-3 against district foes after Tuesday’s 5-1 loss to Farmersville.

Lone Star earned its second district win of the season just days before the loss by grabbing a 9-4 victory over Nevada Community.

In the game, pitcher Marisa Matsuno earned the win after holding Community to just three hits on the night.

The Lady Rangers will look to improve to 3-3 in district play tonight when they take on Princeton in a 6:30 p.m. road contest.

Rattlers make statement

The Collin County Rattlers (5-0) and Cooke County Outlaws had set themselves apart as the top two teams in the Minor Professional Football League’s Metro Division early on.

The Rattlers are now alone after Saturday’s 28-0 win over the reigning TUFL champions.

Collin County’s defense kept Cooke County at bay with four sacks plus interceptions from Shelton Thigpen, Tyler Ogden, Chase Richey and Mike Turman.

Quarterback Terry Barber, who threw for 249 yards, launched a pair of touchdown passes the way of Quinten McKinney. The return of Greg Green jolted the running game to the tune of 170 yards with Green amassing a pair of touchdowns.

The Rattlers look to keep their momentum alive Saturday, traveling to meet the Texas Cavalry.

Wranglers rebound in Wichita

The Allen Wranglers (4-1) didn’t let their first loss of the IFL season linger, rebounding Saturday with a 61-48 win over the Wichita Wild.

The Wranglers weathered a furious effort by Wichita receiver Doug Pierce (143 yards and five touchdowns) to cap their four-game road trip at 3-1.

This without co-owner Terrell Owens and starting their third quarterback of the year.

Kasey Printers helmed the offense with four total touchdowns, 236 yards passing and 24 rushing.

Darius Fudge propelled the running attack with a trio of touchdowns to complement 45 rushing yards and 25 receiving yards. Ryan Moore led Allen with 103 yards on eight catches and a touchdown.

Allen picked off the Wild twice, including a late interception by Luke McArdle to seal the win.

The Wranglers return home Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. kickoff against the Nebraska Danger.
