Published: Thursday, July 21, 2011 10:38 PM CDT
First Choice Power is helping Lewisville nonprofits save money on their energy bills by awarding Reduce Your Use Grants for energy-efficient upgrades. Reduce Your Use Grants provide Texas schools, chambers and nonprofits as much as $2,000 for energy-efficient upgrades, products and programs.

These nonprofits are among 34 Reduce Your Use Grant recipients. First Choice Power awarded a total of $60,000 in grants across the state. Keep Lewisville Beautiful will use their funds to purchase more than 1,400 compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs) to give to the community. PediPlace will purchase a self-contained, fan-cooled system to help them more efficiently serve children in need.

"This grant program allows us to give back to the communities First Choice Power is a part of," said Bryan Hayduk, president, First Choice Power. "By helping nonprofits afford energy efficient upgrades we are able to help reduce their energy usage and lower their bill. Those savings go back to help their clients, those most in need in our communities."

Keep Lewisville Beautiful's CFLs will allow for savings of as much as $13,464* per year in the community. PediPlace is expected to save $120* per year on energy bills through its new cooling system.

"We are excited to provide education on energy savings to the people of Lewisville," said Coralee Lennert of Keep Lewisville Beautiful. "The grant is also a great opportunity to make changes to help us save on our energy expenses."

Other grant recipients are implementing projects such as installing new energy-efficient appliances, replacing outdated technology and making upgrades in insulation.
