The North Texas Commission announced Plano Chamber of Commerce interim director Mabrie Jackson as the new president and CEO of the nonprofit consortium.
Jackson, who has served on the Plano City Council, ran for the position of state representative for District 66 and was the interim chamber director, said she will begin her new role July 9 and hopes to give input to the strategic plan that is being formed.
“We’re trying to figure out the most strategic role for the North Texas community to bring local governments and businesses together to provide solutions to some of the pressing issues to our region,” she said.
“I just want to make sure that whatever the NTC decides that they want to do that it’s something we can be really influential in, not just making statements to make statements,” she said.
Her experience in Plano government and Plano business will help her as she transitions, Jackson said.
The former president and CEO, Dan Petty, will be leaving the organization after 17 years in the position and will take over a consultant role until after the 2011 Super Bowl.
Jackson said it is important to the organization that he remain on the committee heading up Super Bowl strategies because he has been with the organization for so long and has been part of that committee since it was formed.
The NTC also will assess the effectiveness of the committee to use as an example for future committees, she said.
According to the commission’s website, the NTC is the only public-private regional organization with the goal of enhancing economic vitality in North Texas. It is a consortium of businesses, cities, counties, chambers of commerce, economic development entities and higher education institutions.
Because she will be leaving her post as interim director of the Chamber of Commerce on June 30, Jackson said she was charged with providing the members of the chamber a summary of what it needs to do to move into the next 10 to 20 years.
