Softball: Farmers ready for district season

Lewisville’s softball team finished its preparation for the district season competing in the San Marcos Tournament during the weekend.
The Farmers (7-13) won two games and lost two in pool play, qualifying Lewisville for the silver bracket of tournament play.
Lewisville went 1-2 in the in the silver division, winning against Wimberley, 11-0, before losing games against St. Agnes Academy, 9-0, and Tarkington, 3-1.
Alexander added the team started hitting better against Tarkington, but it was too late.
“We were playing little 75-minute games,” Alexander said. “If we had seven innings it could have been different.”
Krysta O’Neal started in the circle and tossed a one-hit shutout over three innings, earning the win against Wimberley. Lewisville had nine hits, including a homer and double by Devon Duran, a triple and run scored by Haley Howerton, and two hits and a run by Amanda Scott.
Maleia Newland, O’Neal and Hannah Barnett added base hits, while Cynthia Barrera reached base three times and scored three runs.
O’Neal earned the loss against St. Agnes as the Farmers only managed four hits, including two more by Barrera.
Valerie Anzaldua started against Tarkington and earned the loss. Barrera went 1-for-2 with a run, while Duran had a single and an RBI. Amber Smith also added a single.
