Lewisville library receives
statewide award for excellence
The Lewisville Public Library has received the 2006 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. Of the 565 public libraries in Texas, only 21 received the annual award recognizing libraries that have demonstrated excellence in 10 areas of library service.
The Lewisville Public Library is located at the Municipal Annex, 1197 W.

Free astronomy program
planned for Sept. 15
Lewisville Parks and Leisure Services will hold a free Stargazers astronomy program from 8 to 8-11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Memorial Park, 1950 S. Valley Parkway. The program will be conducted by astronomer John Olson using electronically controlled 10-inch and 12-inch telescopes to view such celestial features as open and globular star clusters, distant galaxies, planets, moons and nebulae. Early visitors can use a special filter to view the sun. For information, call 972-219-5061.
Lewisville Lake Symphony starts
season with international exchange
The Lewisville Lake Symphony will kick off its 24th season on Sept. 14 with its first conductor exchange as Maestro Aikuang Sun of Taiwan assumes the baton to conduct a concert featuring her daughter, cellist Grace Ho.
Adron Ming, music director and conductor for the Lewisville symphony, will fly across 13 time zones in the other direction to conduct the Taipei Sunshine Symphony Orchestra in Sun’s place.
Ho, currently a student at the University of North Texas in Denton, began playing cello when she was 9 years old. Sun also studied at UNT, where she received her doctorate. Her appearances include the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Oratorio Society. Her published works include several articles in “The Journal of Music Study,” a book on Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies, three music textbooks and a recording of Taiwanese Folk Songs.
The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. at Lakeland Baptist Church, 397 S. Stemmons Freeway at the Main Street exit. It is part of the orchestra’s Dallas Morning News neighborsgo Symphony Series and is sponsored in part by the City of Lewisville. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $10 for students, or $60 for families of any size.
